How You Can Help Us

How We Help The Community

Douglas County Mental Health is a not-for-profit organization helping people with mental health issues in Douglas County and surrounding areas. Grants, fees and insurance payments comprise an important part of our ability to serve people. But individual donations provide funding for programming not otherwise covered. We need your help!

If you want to make a donation to Douglas County Mental Health mail your contribution to:

Douglas County Mental Health

Tuscola, IL 61953

We are also in need of talented people who believe in the importance of high quality, recovery focused mental health services. Each year the agency holds annual fund raisers designed to help offset the cost of services. Events such as our annual plant sale, mum sale, garage sales and car detailing service help us fund important programming. If you would be interested in assisting us in any of our fund raising events, volunteers are always welcome. To volunteer, contact the Assistant Agency Director, Jan Aten, at 217-253-4731.

If you are a current client at Douglas County Mental Health, one of the most important things you can do to help our agency is keep your scheduled appointments. Cancellations and missed appointments mean time reserved for you isn't available to other clients. Keeping scheduled appointments allows us to work at our most efficient level possible and ensures quality care for all we serve.

Another avenue of assistance to the agency is the support of those who are willing to advocate for mental health initiatives and much-needed funding. If you are interested in working to advocate to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, talk to legislators or assist in any other way, please contact the Executive Director, Carol Davis at 217-253-4731.

The stigma of mental illness makes it difficult for those in need of assistance. People who need treatment and can benefit from treatment often don't pursue help because of the negative social stigma. Statistics indicate that 1 in 5 people will need mental health counseling in their life.

As members of the community, you can help in two ways:

  • By supporting mental health efforts.
  • By advocating the seeking of help to people with possible mental illness in our neighborhoods.

People with mental illness are often disrespected and isolated due lack of understanding of their condition.

In this day and age, recovery is possible. This long neglected segment of the population has now been given the gift of hope through medication and counseling techniques. Please support their efforts to seek treatment.

Thank you for your support!
